I am a married 41 year old mother of 2 children, 6 year old boy Michael and 8 year old girl Mallory.  I live in South Riding, VA but grew up in Bergen County NJ.  I previously worked at MTV Networks in Times Square, NY and attended fun and wild parties!  Every day, for about 6 years I would take a bus into the Port Authority, walk past seedy strip clubs, homeless people living on the street and hookers to get to my office in Times Square.  Where else in the world can you do this at 9am?  I loved the excitement and energy of working in Times Square!  You felt like you were in the center of the universe.  After getting married in 1995, we moved to Northern Virginia for my husbands franchise business and I started working at America Online.  Now I was driving to work passing cows. HOW BORING!  What have I done?  It took a lot of effort to get myself energized every day.  I was no longer getting that energy from external sources.

I've always worked since I was 16 years old and it was quite a shock when I decided to become a stay at home mom at 36.  The first couple of weeks I just sat around not knowing what to do!  I am far from a 'Martha Stewart' type, so there was no chance of me growing my own herbs or hosting a dinner party for 50!  I had exciting plans of having time to read, exercise, shop, decorate, meet other moms and NOT have to multi-task every minute of the day.  Although I did most of that, it was still really hard to meet other moms in South Riding that didn’t live on my block.

After a couple of years of staying home, my house was decorated and I just couldn’t shop any more because I would be broke.  I decided it was time to finally attempt to meet other moms in the area.  But how?  That’s how I came up with the idea of having a central place for Moms to gather and bond on a daily basis.  Moms helping other moms solve their daily dilemmas.  In addition to that, give each other advice about the local businesses and activities in our area that are mom and kid friendly.

I envisioned something different than the usual parenting web directories that are available.  They usually link to articles that make you feel like a failure if you don't read 10 books a day to your child.  Or make you feel like the devil if your child doesn't eat 5 servings of vegetables a day.  Do french fries count as a vegetable?  Anyway, only realistic information is shared among friends and other moms who have been through it before. Don't you wonder, how all these other moms look so happy and organized?   Why aren't they exhausted, frustrated, drained and frazzled like me?   I think they are all fakes.  Why can't most women admit that their lives aren't perfect?  Whatever type of mom you are, other moms are eager to hear how you manage it all.  Talking to other moms who understand is like free therapy!  They make us feel human and normal.  And on days when your kids have had multiple meltdowns, the washing machine broke, you got a flat tire, and you are PMS'ing, you definitely need another woman to help get you through the day.
