Hi-

I have a 9 yr old daughter and a 2 yr old son, I want my daughter to do well in school (she is doing great) although when she comes home from school it takes her at least an hour to start her homework - it makes me so angry!!!! - but from the books I've read I am supposed to let her face the consequences, if she does not do her homework and chores. However sometimes I slip and yell at her to be aware of the time -I am afraid if I push too much she will have ill memories of me forever and never be independent! I am also seeking a Mom's group or chatting place that have the same issues--

Hey there-I'm a mom to a 7 year old and 4 year old. I usually let my 7 year old take a break right after school and let her brain engage in activities other than school work. Then when she does get to her homework her brain is fresh. However, every child is different. Plus I'm sure a 9 year old has more homework than my 7 year old does right now?!! I'm sorry this isn't really an answer to your frustration. On another note, I look back at my childhood and wish my Mom had kept on my back a little more when it came to school work, so I say keep up the great work Mom!

thanks for the reply - My issue is that my daugther takes at least an hour to wind down,by that time it is dinner and the entire night is gone- In addition she signed up for a book club in school and has to read 50 pages every week plus homework and tests- therefore I feel the pressure to push her and let her know the consequences if it isn't finished (she doesn't want to hear the consequences but I feel it is necessary). As you said you weren't pushed ,I wasn't either so I feel it is my duty to push her but I do not want to go overboard- I want to stay connected- I did find something at claudmore a tea party for moms and daughters this Sunday..(actually I found it on this website) It sounds like fun -
